Yes I am talking about those 3 hours + extra 15 minutes of examination hall. In those 195 minutes you have to keep calm and give your best shot.
Do not pressurize yourself during that time .It is the time to show how many sleepless nights you have spent, how many short notes you have prepared, how many family functions and movies you have missed.
ICAI cannot see the efforts you have put during preparation time so it will judge you on the basis of how you perform in those 11700 seconds. (i.e 3 hours plus 15 extra minutes)
It is up to you how well you show your efforts. You may lose nerve on seeing 1st question. You may be even blank for questions carrying good weightage. It may be like “Yeh nahi ata” , “Yeh bhi nahi ata”, “Yeh toh kabhi dekha hi nahi hai” !
But relax and solve patiently those questions the solutions of which you are confident about. Pick out the questions that relate well to your revision.Don't rush anything. Taking adequate time at this point will pay off handsomely.
I have seen students who surrender the group after screwing first paper and ironically getting 45-50 in that paper. Yes this is ICAI’s way of mocking at students and make them understand results are always unpredictable!
Had they appeared for all papers, they at-least had a “chance” to clear the group or they might have got exemptions in 1 or more papers. Who knows rest of the papers are going to be a cake walk- much more better than you had ever expected. You also never even know how checking is going to be done.
Time management is one of the most important thing in examination hall.Students are sometimes unable to solve complete paper because they get struck in 1 question and waste a lot of time. Remember this is not your home where you are practicing the questions. During preparation it is okay to spend that much time so that you get your concepts clear. But students do exactly opposite. Even in practical subjects , they keep solutions before them and will just try to understand by looking at solution and solving on calculator. This is mostly the case in subjects like Advanced Management Accounting.
In examination hall, never ever allot excessive time to a single question . You should allot 1.5 minutes to each mark. In those extra 15 minutes you can calculate and write how much time you have to allot to each questions and before starting any solution check you watch, it is okay to exceed the standard set by a max of 2-5 minutes. That way you should be able to complete your paper in about 2.5-2.75 hours. You should have speed in solving right from 2 am . Else you will panic when you see the clock has stroked 4.50. You will become a ninja man.
Write qualitative answers not quantitative answers. Remember it is not your B.com exams. Supplements don’t add value to your paper, unless you add quality to it.Do not quote sections unless you are 100% sure. Do not waste your time in decorating answers but if you have time in hand you should underline the important terminologies.
Lastly never leave examination hall before time who knows you may spot a wrong answer while checking your own answers or a concept suddenly strikes your mind which hadn’t stroked earlier.
The most important thing is Do not panic whatever may be the situation. If your panic gets worse: stop, put down your pen for few moments and relax. Breathe slowly; close your eyes . Say something positive to yourself. Imagine yourself somewhere else where you feel happy and relaxed. You may also imagine the result day where you put your roll number and press enter and boom and pass..!!
Now work towards making that dream come true, keep calm and give your best in examination hall !
