Women in accountancy
‘An eccentric choice of profession for women’ was the view that greeted Ethel Watts when she became the first woman chartered accountant to be admitted to the ICAEW by examination in1924 Today women represent over a third of all chartered accountants currently in training and over 20% of the ICAEW's total membership.
The fact that so many women are entering the profession is evidence of its increased commitment to flexible working patterns. See women in accountancy for details of the ICAEW programme to support members during and after a career break with events, networking opportunities and access to a comprehensive resource of online information.
We also offer a range of resources to help accountants manage their career and development including topics such as career breaks, flexible working, work-life balance and women in business.
