How to improve your English speaking skills

English is the most spoken language throughout the world. In modern times it has become the first choice for communicating with people and businesses from different ethnicities and landscapes. It has become important for survival and thriving in education and business that you know how to speak good English. Here are some ways to improve your skills, have a read.
  • Find people who are good at it preferably native English speakers

‘You improve by playing with a better opponent’, the same logic applies here. Find people who are good at communicating in English. If you can find native English speakers then it’s the best. Communicate with them on a regular basis. Don’t hold back; tell them that you are trying to improve.
  • Listen carefully

‘To improve at something, you must first observe carefully’. While you are talking with native English speakers listen very carefully, watch how they speak, what sounds and subtle intonations they are using while communicating. You don’t want to sound artificial while speaking. Watch how people move their mouths and tongues while speaking for better and correct pronunciation.
  • Take your time

‘Slow and steady wins the race’. There’s no hurry, pay attention to the details and that means slow down a bit. Even when you are speaking it is important that whatever you say is very clear and understandable by the other person, slowly you will develop your speed. While slow speaking will also ensure that you don’t form bad habits while starting out and later on work hard to remove them.
  • Listen to yourself

A great way to improve is to listen to yourself while speaking, however this practice can be greatly improved by using a recorder to record yourself and listen to it later on.
  • Immerse yourself in English

A brilliant way to create an overall environment which supports your learning will be to immerse yourself in English. Listen to English songs, watch English movies, read English books and most important try speaking the language whenever it’s possible.
